West Virginia Annual Work Plan

The following initiatives are the focus of the West Virginia annual work plan for 2010-2011.

Initiative 1 Goal: To assist the West Virginia Department in the creation and implementation of a equitable system that articulates, measures, rewards, and develops teacher and leader effectiveness.

Objectives:

  • Build the capacity of the WVDE to create and implement a comprehensive system that articulates, measures, rewards,and develops teacher and leader effectiveness.

Initiative 2 Goal: Build the capacity of the WVDE to build a fully coherent, aligned and equitable system of support that builds capacity, promotes equity, supports best practice and fosters innovation from all systems that results in all students being college and career ready.

Objectives:

  • Build the capacity of the WVDE to support school and district improvement efforts aimed at increasing student success in college and the workplace.
  • Build the capacity of the WVDE to provide comprehensive, coherent technical assistance to schools and districts in need of improvement.

WV Year 4 Work Focuses on Assessment, the Statewide System of Support (SSoS), and 21st Century Skills
ARCC's recent work with the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) focused on the following:
  • Providing guidance to WVDE staff as they examined and restructured the statewide system of support
  • Working with WVDE staff to improve and coordinate efforts to support students at the high school level through the piloting of the Learning Individualized Needs Knowledge Skills (LINKS) Program
  • Helping bring WVDE into compliance with NCLB regulations for migrant and neglected and delinquent students by assisting them in utilizing tools such as comprehensive needs assessments
  • Assisting WVDE with improving its capacity to implement a the TechSteps program, which is being used to assess the 21st Century technology skills of eighth-grade students as directed by NCLB regulations
